Comprehensive Pediatric Growth Evaluation & Care

Tuntun Children's Hospital is here for every step of your baby's growth journey.

Pediatric Nephrology

Comprehensive Pediatric Growth Clinic

A child's growth is about more than just their current height—it is a complex process where speed, trajectory, and timing must all be carefully evaluated.
성장 속도·방향·시기가 함께
Instead, we conduct a comprehensive assessment of your child’s overall growth trajectory.

Our fundamental principle is simple:
we avoid unnecessary treatments,
but we ensure we never miss the critical window for intervention
when it is truly needed.

Tailored Growth Care

Every child has a unique growth rate and pattern.
What truly matters is not “how tall they are today,”
but whether they are following a healthy, normal growth trajectory.
Our growth specialists carefully consider multiple factors to determine the best approach for your child:

  • Current height and weight
  • Changes in growth velocity
  • Bone age and growth plate status
  • Signs and progression of puberty

성장 진료가 필요한 경우

A comprehensive evaluation may be highly beneficial
if you notice any of the following:

Signs Your Child May Need an Evaluation:
또래보다 키가 눈에 띄게 작은 경우
성장 속도가 점점 느려지는 경우
갑자기 키가 빠르게 크는 경우
부모 키에 비해 성장 예측이 낮은 경우
사춘기 징후가 또래보다 빠르거나 늦은 경우

Note: It is vital to accurately distinguish whether these signs are simply natural variations in physique or if they require a medical evaluation of the child's growth trajectory.

How We Evaluate Pediatric Growth
A pediatric growth evaluation is not a simple comparison of height or growth speed.

It is a systematic, step-by-step process designed to comprehensively assess your child’s current growth status and future potential.
We do not apply a "one-size-fits-all" approach;
instead, we determine the need for further diagnostics based on the results of each preceding step.

Our Step-by-Step Testing Principles
  • We always start with the most basic, essential evaluations.
  • We never proceed to advanced testing unless medically necessary.
  • We interpret growth velocity and test results holistically.

Growth Evaluation Workflow

Here is how we evaluate your baby's condition:

STEP 01. Assessing Current Growth Status

We begin by evaluating your child’s growth plates (bone age) and comparing them to their chronological age.
This helps us determine their current growth velocity and remaining growth potential.

If within the average peer range:

→ Regular growth monitoring

If bone age is advancing too quickly or too slowly (requiring further assessment):

→ Proceed to the next step for an in-depth evaluation

STEP 02: Initial Precision Assessment (Blood Tests & Ultrasound)

During this phase, we utilize comprehensive blood tests and ultrasound imaging to accurately assess physiological changes
related to growth and pubertal development.

Heart Strain

Evaluate growth and puberty-related hormone levels,
as well as the child’s overall health
and nutritional status.

Ultrasound Imaging

Examine internal organs and structures related to growth
and physical development
to support clinical diagnosis.

No clear abnormalities detected

→ We recommend continued observation without medical treatment.

If further evaluation is needed:

→ We conduct a comprehensive clinical review to confirm if puberty is actively progressing.

Diagnostic test results 해석 기준

Pediatric growth cannot be determined by a single test result.
We carefully analyze the following factors in conjunction to evaluate your child's growth status and determine the best course of action:

  • 1

Growth plate status and maturation rate

  • 2

Changes in actual growth velocity (tracking the growth curve)

  • 3

    Findings from growth-related laboratory tests

  • 4

Chronological age and remaining growth potential

Growth Hormone Therapy

Growth Hormone Therapy
We do not initiate therapy simply because a child is shorter than average.
Instead, we holistically assess your child’s growth velocity,

growth plate status,
and remaining growth potential
to determine if medical intervention is truly necessary.

When is Growth Hormone Therapy Considered?
언제 고려하나요?

under the following circumstances:

Growth velocity is significantly slower
than peers.

Growth plates are still open, but remaining growth potential
is deemed insufficient.

Comprehensive testing indicates that therapy is likely
to improve long-term growth outcomes.

Note: We never base the decision to start therapy solely on a single growth hormone blood level.

Our hospital provides thorough training on proper injection techniques and ongoing care management.
  • Administered once daily at a consistent time.
  • Injections are given by a parent/guardian (or self-administered by the child under strict supervision).
Continuous Monitoring
Through regular outpatient follow-ups, we continuously monitor your child’s response to the therapy, track changes in growth velocity,
and closely check for any potential side effects.

성장 호르몬 치료에서 중요한 점

When it comes to growth hormone therapy, when you start and how you manage it is far more critical
than simply deciding whether or not to use injections.

1

치료 시기가 늦어도
can significantly limit its effectiveness.

2

필요 없는 치료는
can place an unnecessary physical and emotional strain on the child.

3

치료 중에도 Active Observation (Watch and wait)과
and reassessment are absolutely essential while undergoing therapy.
